Duke

We are the family that gave Duke his furever home in May of '04. We
got our Cloee (white girl) from Cathy Sylvester the year before May '03.
Last Wednesday our beloved Duke had the last of several episodes where
he would be laying down and then flop to his side and breathe hard,
seeming to pass out. After a few minutes, he would stand up, give his
head a shake and walk off, giving us a look as if to say, what's all
the fuss about? We had been to the vet just a week before for our
yearly exams and the doc had been pleased because the protein in
Duke's urine was lower and he had lost 9-10 pounds.
He got me up early Wednesday and before I could even get him outside
he urinated while standing, then had another episode. The episodes
continued about every fifteen minutes, I called the Vet office and
told them I was bringing him in, we live about a mile from the office.
I went out to move the car closer to the door and when I came in he
was watching me but not moving. I stroked him and soothed him and he
just left me for the rainbow bridge, He will be cremated and stay at
our beach home with the remains of our Springer. He always liked being
there, and we were there the weekend before he left us. He and Cloee
just loved to lay in the yard there and enjoy the sunshine.
Of course Cloee is confused and has been searching for him, We're
giving her some more attention and appreciating her helping us to get
through this time, She jelly beans and wriggles all over when we come
home but then looks behind us for her 'brother'.
We really miss him but know that he was happy with us for four years
and we sure loved him!
