About Emily and Louis
They're rescue dogs. That is, each of them spent some time with
volunteer workers who take it on themselves to help homeless Boxers.
Emily's earliest known records date back to the summer of 2000 when she was picked up as an apparently abused stray in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Vets estimated her age at about nine months. Ems was probably the product of one of the Amish supported puppy mills that operate in that area. She may not be an example of a well bred Boxer physically, but in terms of personality, temperament and intellect, she is the ideal Boxer. Emily joined our family here in suburban Milwaukee in August, 2000. Louis was what's called an owner surrender. His original owners decided, for one reason or another, that they didn't want him any more. Personally, I find that to be unimaginable, especially now that I've come to know Lou very well. He was two years and a few months old when he came to us from Ohio in November, 2003. Like Emily, he has a wonderful personality, but unlike her, there's no doubt that Lou is the result of well planned Boxer breeding. It's hard to find a better looking example of the breed. Lou's ears are the exception to that rule, but that has to do only with the fact that after they decided his ears should be cropped, his first owners failed to do the followup work necessary to get them to stand up. Those of us who know and love him find that Lou's non-standard ears add to his charm. -- Dale Ulmer
